Mountain Biking

Come and ride the best trails in Baja California

The Location

Los Barriles is situated practically right on the Tropic of Cancer where the foothills of the ‘Sierra De La Laguna’ mountains reach the Sea of Cortez. This spectacularly scenic, sparsely populated region of  “Sub-tropical thorn forest” boasts unpolluted air and a plethora of natural plant, bird and animal life that thrives in the warm, sunny, arid climate.

Los Barriles town itself is a mixture of quaint Mexican originality with just enough development to ensure a sufficient level of services e.g. Wifi, bank, supermarket etc.

Vela Baja has promoted mountain biking in the area for more than 20 years and over that time has developed a substantial network of trails that are easily accessible directly from town.

There are rides to suit all levels of experience, fitness and ability. The vast majority of trails are relatively technical, single track – designed to challenge intermediates yet still satisfy even the most advanced riders. For those riders preferring less technical riding there are plenty of alternative local options including scenic hill and coastal rides.

Guided Rides

Vela Baja’s qualified and experienced guides conduct daily morning guided rides departing directly from the center. Rides are tailored to suit the group’s preference and typically last in the region of 2 to 3 hrs.

Bike Rental

Vela Baja offers mountain bike rental on half-day (afternoon only) or full day basis with discounted rates for pre-booked longer-term rentals. For full details please see the price list.
